Urban Ecology Center - Washington Park 1859 N 40th Street, Milwaukee WI 53208 Celebrating Indigenous People's
Day and lifting up bills being introduced in Madison on Rights of Nature. On October 13, 2025, members of the Wisconsin State Assembly hosted a news conference to honor Indigenous Peoples Day and introduce “Rights of Nature” Legislation and revive “Prove it First." Wisconsin’s previously bipartisan “Prove It First” law — requires mining companies to prove their projects won’t harm our water — and recognizes Devil’s Lake’s legal right to exist.

Recent legislative efforts, supported by Indigenous and environmental groups including WISDOM, championed bills to codify the Rights of Nature and safeguard key ecological sites such as Devil’s Lake Park (Ho-Chunk: Tee Wakącąk).
